The Career Pathway
VSG is at the forefront in the development and delivery of training qualifications for its Management Structure. The training is accredited by the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) and has been designed to create a career pathway for employees to progress within the business.
All qualifications are delivered by our in-house team of qualified trainers at our state of the art Training Academy in Northampton. The Career Pathway is made up of the following different stages:
Supervisory Positions – Level 2 Apprenticeship in Team Leading
The Apprenticeship has been designed to develop essential Management skills and knowledge in order to set a benchmark for Management performance. All candidate work required for the qualification is designed to be relevant to the day to day requirements of the learner’s job role. The Apprenticeship is completed over a 9 month period.
VSG are keen to recognise and utilise the existing talent within the business already and so have developed the Talent Management Programme (TMP).
Talent Management Programme
The TMP has been designed to provide aspiring talent with the underpinning knowledge, practical experience and business / mentoring support to prepare them for the move to an Operational Management role. Application to join the programme is through an annual process open to employees with previous or current supervisory experience. There is a rigorous screening and assessment process to ensure we select the right people with the aptitude and desire to succeed and progress.
Operational Managers – Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Effective Management
The Advanced Apprenticeship has been designed to improve, broaden and enhance Management skills and knowledge across a wide range of Management competencies, applicable to this role. The Advanced Apprenticeship is completed over an 18 month period.
Account or Regional Managers – Level 5 Certificate in Management
The Certificate has been designed to enhance Management skills and knowledge across a wide range of Management competencies, applicable to this role. The Certificate is completed over a 9 month period.

The initial launch of their cohort was back in September 2011 and they have since attended a wide variety of workshops from business communication to training, coaching and mentoring. Each candidate is working towards a Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship in Effective Management and as such has a large amount of work to complete both on the workshops and also back in their workplace.
To assist the candidates with their development they are each assigned a Mentor from the business who is currently in an Operational Manager role so that the candidate can gain exposure to the role they are aspiring to achieve.
