The BSIA Awards are regarded as one of the highest accolades in the security industry. The awards provide an exclusive platform to showcase the high calibre of personnel that work within the security industry.
Our VSG colleagues won seven national awards at the awards ceremony which took place at the London Hilton on Park Lane on Wednesday, 16 July.
Best Team – Milton Keynes IKEA
The store has been identified as a store of excellence in the UK. The seven strong team are described as a determined and outstanding group of individuals who excel at every part of their role.
Best Team – Magna Park
The eight strong team are a committed group of individuals who continue to exceed the standards required of them. The team has introduces new processes which has resulted in the client reducing the amount of stock that is stolen. The team have also suggested and implemented working with police dogs to search warehouses which has proven popular with the client.
Best Newcomer – Karl Smith, The Kingdom Shopping Centre, Glenrothes
Karl has been with VSG for just under a year. He was nominated for this award by his manger due to his level of commitment he brings to the role and the value he adds to the team. Having just started his career in the security industry he has adapted exceptionally quickly to his new environment and is never afraid to ask questions and seek solutions to problems by asking colleagues.
Best Newcomer - Emilija Zemaitaityte, Credit Suisse
Emilija has been working for VSG at Credit Suisse for just over 18 months. She has been nominated for the award by her mangers for rising quickly through the initial security ranks to become acting control centre operator and for generally establishing herself as a respected security officer. She is always keen to develop her security knowledge, and her enthusiasm and dedication to the company shows in her commitment to her role.
Best use of Technology – Joe Palmer, Midlands
Joe was appointed to lead a Crime Line and Data Analysis team to proactively tackle organised crime. Recently, the system identified a gang of “till-snatchers” which resulted in their arrest and prosecution for crimes they has committed across the UK.
Outstanding Act – Robbie Smith, The Mall (Maidstone)
Robbie has been based at the Mall in Maidstone for just over 10 years. Whilst a mother and daughter were shopping in the Mall the daughter had a fit and stopped breathing. Robbie acted fast to clear her airways and lower her temperature before handing over to the ambulance services. Robbie’s quick thinking ultimately led to saving the baby’s life.
The BSIA also celebrate young apprentices in the UK private security industry and the awards ceremony included the Apprentice Installer Awards.
Tom Parker received a national Apprentice Installer Award honouring his blossoming career and already having worked on large scale installations for high-profile clients, such as London South Bank University, Lloyds of London and Macquarie Bank. Tom is studying additional modules after already reaching the minimum level required to pass his college course.
Commenting on these wins Barry Dawson, Business Director at VSG said: ‘We are delighted to have won so many British Security Industry Association Awards, they are very highly regarded in the security industry and showcase the talent we have here at VSG. My congratulations goes to each winner and finalist, these awards don’t come easily and each winner has gone above and beyond their normal duties so it’s fantastic this has been recognised.’
